Abstract Abstract In the present study, the Gorani version of the "Seven Labors of Rostam" is examined from a comparative and textual criticism perspective. The primary objective of this research is to identify the unique characteristics of the Gorani narrations of the Seven Labors in comparison to the Shahnameh narrative. As a model of the hero's journey towards maturity and heroic development, the Seven Labors holds a special place not only in Persian epic literature but also in Gorani poetry, where it is reimagined with significant differences. This study, using a descriptive-analytical method and relying on textual criticism, aims to highlight the differences and similarities between the Gorani versions and Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh. The results indicate that the Gorani narratives, particularly the Safri manuscript, while preserving the overall structure of the Seven Labors, include unique additions. These additions alter the characters, the family relations of the demons, and the sequence of the labors, distinguishing them from the Shahnameh’s account. For example, the inclusion of the character Zarali, changes in the order of the labors, and additions like the prophecy of the White Demon’s mother and Rostam’s battle with Shaban, all point to fundamental differences between the Gorani version and the Shahnameh.
